Background
The Backgating figure is designed to help a user explore their gating hierarchy. It shows the final gated population within the population of it's ancestors. It is intended to help you visualise your population of interest within the distribution of the main population. This can lead you to decide whether your gates are produced correctly.
Method
Quickly review your Backgating Hierarchy, optionally across all your Files, in Figure.
The View Backgating Hierarchy action is only available in Grid Mode, it is not yet available in Canvas Mode.
1. Select View Backgating Hierarchy
Add a Figure task to your workflow. Select ꠵ Actions ➝ Figure Actions ➝ View Backgating Hierarchy.
2. Choose which Filter(s) to Display
Choose which Filter(s) to Display and click Submit. Note that if you select multiple Filters that have common ancestors, then you will get some duplication, see Step (5) for an alternative way to view multiple backgates. Here I have chosen a single Filter.
You may find it useful to have two browser windows open. Find out more about two window analysis in OMIQ here.
3. (Optional) Customize
By default your plots will display a legend as shown in the top image above, this is intentional for clarity of what you are viewing. If you wish to end up with a Backgating Hierarchy that looks like the lower image, follow these steps. Select the most terminal plot (density plot) ➝ right click ➝ Select ➝ Invert Selection ➝ if not already visible, click Settings ➝ deselect display Legend.
4. Bonus Step: View Backgating Hierarchy for all your Files

5. Bonus Step: View Multiple Backgates
Select your plot(s) ➝ if not already visible, click Settings ➝ Overlay Filters ➝ select additional relevant layers. You could go totally wild and now permute your plots with multiple overlays (Bonus Step 4)!
Easily customize the colors used in Overlay Filters - find out how here.
