Canvas Mode is a freeform layout editor in the Figure task. You are able to move flow cytometry plots, box plots and bar charts around the editor freely.
Note that you can not yet use the Permute Selection action, the View Gate Hierarchy action or the Make NxN Plots action in Canvas Mode. As a workaround, we suggest performing the aforementioned actions in a separate tab in Grid Mode, and copy-pasting them to your Canvas Mode tab.
1. Add a Figure Task to Your Workflow
Click Add new child task and select Figure from the task selector. Note that your Workflow might look slightly different, if you are using Compact View.
2. Convert Grid Mode to Canvas Mode
Right Click on the Figure tab (where it says New Tab) → Convert to Canvas Mode.
Note that you can convert Grid Mode to Canvas Mode when Grid Mode is populated with flow cytometry plots, box plots and bar charts. However, you cannot convert Canvas Mode back to Grid Mode.
3. Using Canvas Mode
3.1. How to Tell if You are in Canvas Mode or Grid Mode
If a tab is in Canvas Mode, as in the image above, you will see a different icon beside in the Tab Name, as compared to Grid Mode. Additionally, the background has guides to snap to.
3.2. Freely Move Plots Around Figure in Canvas Mode
Unlike Grid Mode, in Canvas Mode you can freely move flow cytometry plots and/or box plots/bar charts.
3.3. Extend the Dimensions of Your Figure in Canvas Mode
Drag to resize your selected plot(s) or chart(s). Dragging the circles keeps the aspect ratio. Dragging the rectangles adjusts the width and height without keeping the aspect ratio.
3.4. Add Shapes to your Figure
In the Shapes option of the widget, you can select to add a (1) Straight Arrow or an (2) Angled Arrow.
Arrows can be customized by selecting them and configuring them in the Arrow Settings.
In the Shapes option of the widget, you can select to add a Rectangle.
Rectangles can be customized by selecting them and configuring them in the Rectangle Settings.
3.5. Customize the Layout of your Figure
Plots can be aligned in Canvas Mode. To align the plots, hover over the Layout option in the widget. You can select to (1) Align Top, (2) Align Vertical Center, (3) Align Bottom, (4) Align Left, (5) Align Horizontal Center, (6) Align Right.
Plots can be layered in Canvas Mode. To change the layering order, right click on a plot or selection of plots, and select either Bring Selected to front or Send Selected to back. This can also be accessed in the Layout option in the widget.
Plots can be distributed in Canvas Mode to allow equal spacing between the different plots. To distribute the plots, hover over the Layout option in the widget. You can select to (1) Distribute Vertically or (2) Distribute Horizontally.
